Thanks, Jill! You are absolutely right! I would add greed to that list– they see something that is working, and they want to profit from it. A few have unintentionally “stolen” my work, but those are the ones that take it down. The others torment you by holding your material hostage until they are forced to remove it. After I read your story, I started realizing how many of these types of “blogs” are out there. They are all over Facebook and show up in my sponsored ads ALL THE TIME. I’ve even seen news stations do it…they are imbedding videos into their sites that are not from the original source.

In my opinion these sites thrive because of two things:
Laziness- the users don’t care about finding the actual source, they just want to share an article or story, joke, etc., they enjoy as quickly as possible.
Knowledge- People simply do not realize they are sharing stolen content.

There are links online to various tools that help authors search for duplicates of their content, but what a hassle to have to spend your free time digging around to make sure someone else is being ethical.

I would like to talk to you more about this. I especially would like you to see what happened to me once and get your feedback on it. I’ll shoot an email your way!

Hi Fraggs, I have heard that it’s easier to protect and go after photo theft. It was even suggested to me to take a photo of my post and watermark it so people can’t cut and paste! I probably would do that though. I actually had a photo of mine stolen too! It’s sort of funny how I found out. You know I’m not a photographer, but Nat Geo Traveler magazine reached out to me to use my photo in their magazine. That was awesome!! I did a search to see how they might have found it, and I found that same photo on someone else’s site! She took it down right away, so it was no problem. I think she was a new blogger and didn’t know that it was a no-no. It was a funny moment though because since I sold the rights to Nat Geo, I thought, she could buy them too if she wanted to use it. Otherwise, I probably would have let her use it with just a link back to me. 🙂

]]> By: fragglerocking https://www.lolabeescareercoaching.com/the-skinny-jew-vs-the-fat-jew/#comment-4257 Thu, 10 Sep 2015 20:25:57 +0000 http://lolabees.me/?p=6106#comment-4257 It’s the same in the photography world Lola, lots of togs have their photo’s appropriated and passed off as original content ( the only time I know of it happening to me it was my daughter in law lol) but I’m not looking to earn money from my stuff so don’t think about it much, but a fair few of my fellow contacts who do sell their shots have found someone has beaten them to it and they too are boiling mad. It’s impossible to stop it happening but there should be swift and severe retribution for people who do it. Web hosts should suspend accounts reported immediately, and if found to be poachers, then deleted and barred, and sued. Then hung drawn and quartered 🙂
