Hi E.D.! Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you’ve followed along and shared the craziness and the humor here. I’m also so happy that you had the courage to make such a huge change and sell your practice. It sounds like it was the best thing you could have done. Amazing how much we appreciate that new-found peace after living for so many years in a negative situation. I will happily share any other insights I have on dentistry if people have requested topics, but for now, I’m have no other things to write. (Although I do have a book idea, which I’ll probably never get around to!) 😉 Anyway, I hope you’ll continue to stick around and join in now and then! That’s some good advice to give your students. I’m sure it will be a big help to many of them.

What I say to people who ask me about it, is that in dentistry, the best way to enjoy it, is as you said, not getting into too much debt and being able to work when you want, in reasonable times while doing the kind of dentistry you enjoy, if theres such a thing. If you get out of school with a lot of debt and manage to get yourself into more, to match your old dentists friends lifestyles, houses and cars. You will be grinded in few years. And its not a thing about being good or being the best, cuz thats what a lot of people think, even in dental school, students think bad about teachers to themselves, like this guy probably was a mess and thats why he is teaching. Thinking its only about the hands ability and dentistry knowledge. And that if you are not happy practicing, its cuz you suck at doing dentistry.

Yes, you are right I am a dentist that want a change, I am not practicing right now and the tought of it makes me sick. I say I am on a sabbatical year.

Of course is a generalization but you can read the descriptions and see who would struggle in today dentistry of selling and marketing, and people going where they charge less. Imagine the cancerian in a big dental chain, overworked and not being able to quit because of debt. Poor girl would be eaten alive, trying to be nurturing and soft in that scenario.
