You're welcome! I hope you can find a way to start to be more open with yourself. One thing that has helped me is to think about what I'd say to a friend if she were telling me the things I'm saying or thinking. Then say that to yourself. You'll be surprised about how much more judgmental and mean we are to ourselves than we are to our friends. I have also found that if you can get yourself into a little bit of action, you'll start to see that your fears will either get smaller, or you'll just work right through them. It's all the thinking and no action that keeps us so stuck. So if you try business school and don't like it, what's the worst that can happen? At least you will have taken some action. Our path is rarely a straight line. I know mine wasn't, and that is what makes this life more interesting!

Hi,Laura!
I guess you are right.I judge and re-judge all the time.
Also I often think I don' deserve to be in some trip because I am not "perfect" at work, or I don't deserve that nice outfit.I even sabotage my holidays because I can never feel at peace.I still consider I don't deserve it.
So it is weird not to be able to enjoy your summer holidays that you planned ahead and paid for...just because you feel stuck because you can't enjoy dentistry.
I guess my conscious is saying "If you would be more satisfied with your work you would feel like you deserve to be here".And it's something I lived through for years.
What I wish and also fear is to start studying accounting this fall. Why?Because I want to try to see If I can do it or not.Because I do have to money to do it.Because I am afraid I will regret if I don't try it all and let time pass by.Because I will not get any younger.Because it is so different to work at a desk than in people's mouth!
Because I don't want to be stuck forever in finding a passion and honesty I am quite in peace with that now.For many years I was teared up like what is wrong with me?Why don't I have a passion. Then I understood it's ok and it shouldn't be such a big deal for me in order to create change.I just need to find something that adapts better to me.I stopped looking for ideals.
The fact is our life is short and I don't want to still be whinning at 60 or If I have children I don't want to be a bad example for them, but that should not happen since I am the first one who would not involve them in something they don't enjoy(like it happened to me).
And yes it is true we are young at 18-19-21yrs old and we don't really know what to choose.I think it is normal not something to be afraid of.
Some people know and some don't.
Thank you Laura for helping me

Adina, that makes sense that you would judge her. I wonder if you are judging yourself as much as you judged her, which also could be keeping you stuck? What do you think? You are not a cry baby, or a loser. It is okay to not enjoy dentistry. It doesn't make you a bad person.

Hi.I just to wanted to say that after the first 8 minutes of the interview I also judged her "I mean what? She only does teeth whitening?".Even though I would love to be in her place.Ofcourse after overcoming this first shock I totally understood her because we are just the same.
I felt the exact same way like her.And many times I think I am just a big "cry-baby", or just a looser who can't face the real life.
The difference is she is happy now and I am still dreading to work too much.
Thanks for your honesty!

Eric, thanks so much! I agree about the peers. I think we need to bring light to this judgmental behavior that we as a group have toward each other. Whether it's teachers at school, people who go into public health, or a business like Barbara's, we tend to say that someone left private practice because they couldn't hack it. It's just not true, and it's such an unfair judgment!

All those things you listed did make this happen for her. Do you ever think that something like this happens so effortlessly or seamlessly for us because it's what we are meant to be doing? It's like it all falls in place when it's right. I'm guessing you feel that way about what you do now.

Another great and inspiring interview. I like how Barbara described the reactions of some of her peers at CE courses.... I'm not surprised! LOL But good for her! Although, I think she is mistaken about something she said near the end of the interview... "Part of it is luck, I got lucky". I actually think -- based on this interview -- that her determination, hard work, endless creativity, and willingness to try all sorts of new avenues (even some she could have possibly failed at) is what got her to where she is today. Congratulations! You are truly an inspiration! Thanks.
