TMJ is not confined to being born with. It can happen due to teeth misalignment caused by excessive teeth grinding.
Its also a problem for a lot of people with neurological disease Multiple Sclerosis is one case in point.

I appreciate this. Thank you for your clarification. This post was in response to a young woman who wrote the 10 reasons she hates the dentist. She was being sarcastic, and I matched her tone. It was all in good fun, and we were both playing. I wrote this in 2011. At the time, I had no idea it would cause such a stir. What that tells me is that there were and still are a lot of people in pain in dentistry– patients and providers alike. I don’t disagree with what you say about the costs of dentistry, but this post is a moment in time… 1 commentary, and it doesn’t tell the whole story. It does not define me or how I care about people. If you look at my comments, you’ll see that I treat everyone here with respect. I never replied (maybe once or twice) to anyone who called me names or was rude to me. I just ignored them. I’ve had patients reach out to me asking for advice as a result of this post, and I’ve helped them the best I could for free– just advice. For me and many dentists, the whole point of this was that dentists have feelings too. I know the point gets lost in the details of the 10 reasons, but dentists really do care about their patients.

Don’t get me wrong,I stand by my point that you seem blind to the reasons people complain about the bill, but I regret coming in so hot. That was not right, and I am truly sorry.

I do think you need to try and see what that looks like from the other side…sometimes handing over a month’s salary because they HAD to put of the dentist for monetary purposes… but how I responded is not how you change hearts and ones, and is how others talk to me.

I do hope you will learn to be more empathetic in how massive bills affect patients, and how it affects them. However, posting an aggressive message is not the right way to do things.

While I hope you understand why was such a bad take, I do not know you as a person, and we all have blinders. So again, I apologize for now I made my point, even though I do stand by said point.

You probably live a very comfortable life, but even those who don’t need to see the dentist, but the prices often keep them away.

You mention groceries, but grocers, butchers, delivery drivers, and framer for they live less comfortably than the Vera fee dentist.

People complain about the. I’ll because like much of the medical world, your industry is crooked. That may not be your fault, but you have certainly gotten fat off it, maybe you should think about what those “reasonable” prices mean to the people paying.

Dear Dentist,

Everyone is free for opinions and if you have 10 dental practices doesn’t matter. You should respect your colleagues opinion as well and I’m sure that like dentists, not alll the patients and dentists are the same. So next time don’t judge your colleagues and judge yourself.
